Now that NYE is a couple of days away, I wanted to share a fun makeup tutorial for a night on the town. My daily routine is usually pretty simple. But since the holidays are here, I like to make for a more dramatic look. Here is a fun and simple way I like to glam up my holiday look!
I used the following products:
MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation in NC25 // Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush // Benefit Fake Up Concealer in Light // MAC Eyeshadow in Nylon // MAC Blush in Tenderling // Lorac Behind The Scenes Eyeshadow Primer // MAC Lipstick in Dangerous // Stila Liquid Eyeliner // Lancome Hypnose Mascara // Makeup Forever Mist & Fix // Anastasia Contour Kit & Brow Duo (color Taupe)
Cheers! xx
Beauty Talk | Winter Skin Care
Every year, I work harder to take better care of my skin. I try to do all the "necessary" things my dermatologist recommends. I drink a lot of water (I should drink more), wash my face every night before I go to bed, and always use moisturizer. However, now that I am getting closer to my 30's, I notice my skin's texture and appearance changing. Obviously that stuff is going to happen with age, but I am wanting to do what I can to keep my skin looking hydrated and clean. Who doesn't right?
Since the freezing temperatures aren't helping, I decided I needed to switch up my normal skin care routine. I usually use the Kate Somerville face wash and cream (love them) but I needed something a little more hydrating for this time of year.
My skin is combination/sensitive, so I knew this wasn't going to be as easy. My face seems to break out with anything these days! After doing tons of research and reading many positive reviews, I decided to give the Chanel Mousse Douceur face wash and the Hydra Beauty Creme a try. These weren't the most "budget friendly" so I was pretty skeptical at first, but after using them for a week I could already tell a difference in my skins appearance and texture.
I love the consistency of the Mousse ...
15 Minute Curls Hair Tutorial
One of my favorite hairstyles is simple loose curls. It's the style I wear almost daily, and it's one that I can achieve in 15 minutes. It took me years to finally figure out how to curl my hair without it being "too curly" and I want to share with you a few tips and tricks to achieve loose curls that will stay all day. Here are the steps:
And yes, your hair can hold curls!
What You Need:
Spornette Teasing Comb
Boar Hair Brush (only $12!)
Hot Tools 1 in. Curling Iron (on sale for $30)
Hairspray (I used Bumble and Bumble Spray De Mode)
Step 1: Go to bed with wet hair. Letting your hair air dry is the best kept secret to helping hair hold curls. I use one pump of Drybar 100 Proof Treatment Oil when its wet and brush with a wide tooth comb. I throw my hair up in a messy bun and let it air dry over night.
Step 2: Depending on hair texture, you may or may not want to add a little more of the 100 Proof Oil. Obviously I color my hair so it can always use a little moisture. Brush your hair out using a boar ...
In My Bag | Gigi New York
As I've mentioned before, these are my absolute favorite posts. Not just to put together, but I always love hearing what people carry in their bags. I guess you could say I am always on the lookout for new "purse size" goodies to try out.
I switch bags about 4 times during the week, so in between the mess of receipts and gum wrappers, I thought I'd share with you guys the things I carry around on a daily basis.
1. Gigi New York Teddie Tote in Sand- This leather carry all is a life savor. It's the perfect companion to take with me to school each day and a great weekend tote. It hold all my stuff without feeling weighed down.
2. Gigi New York All In One Clutch- This clutch is my favorite multitasker. Not only does it make a great makeup bag but it also is a pretty chic clutch. I just love that tassel!
3. Tieks Ballet Flats in Light Pink- Now that my husband and I moved, we are within walking distance to some of our favorite restaurants. These little guys make it easy when I want to swap the heels for some flats. I also keep these on hand when I want to be comfortable while teaching. They make my feet feel so good.
4. If I Do Say So Myself, Kate Spade Notebook- I'm always one for having cute stationary and paper goods.
How To Style Your Dresser
When we moved, the first thing I wanted to organize was my dresser. My closet was a close second, but I also use my dresser as a vanity. So in order for my morning routine to go quickly and smooth, I wanted to have all my products organized and easily accessible.
My goal was to keep it feminine and clean. And though I don't feel 100% done with this project, I did want to share a quick look on how to update your vanity or dresser.
1. I love prints and books. They are a fun way to add character and personality to your space. I wanted something that went with our decor and would compliment the neutral colors throughout our room and bathroom.
2. My makeup was always my biggest battle. I had a habit where I would just toss everything in my makeup bag..or drawer, which was fine until I couldn't find what I was looking for or until the lid came off and makeup would spill...it was just a mess. I wanted something to display my makeup in a pretty yet functional way. This Monogramed Acrylic Box from White Elephant Designs is a life savor for those who love organization.
3. Finally, I added some extra items on my
Beauty Talk | Bobbi Brown
For the past year, I went through a phase where I couldn't find a foundation that was right for me. Sure it looked great when the lady at the counter applied it, but when I got home I never felt 100% about it. Buying makeup for me is all about the research. It's rare that I just walk into Nordrstrom or Sephora without a game plan. That never goes well and always results in a trip back for a return or a stupid amount of money spent on silly things.
This time I was on the hunt for a new foundation. Bobbi Brown is a brand that I have used for years but have never considered for a foundation. With the school year starting, I wanted something that was light, had spf, and felt good on my skin. The Skin Foundation seemed to have it all and after reading countless (positive) reviews, I thought I would give it a try. Not only did I love it, but my skin has never felt better. It's the only foundation I have used that is light but gives great coverage. When I was perusing through all the comments about the makeup, I noticed that the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Brush kept coming up in conversations. People were raving about this brush and it immediately struck my curiosity. I can't get over this brush. Seriously, this brush is ...
BaubleBar X Pantene
If there's one thing you can count on in Texas, it's the extreme heat (ok and the humidity). Two things that do not pair well with hair. Due to the unfortunate heat, I've been really inspired to find pretty hairstyles that help minimize frizz and are relatively low maintenance.
I was super excited to try out the new Pantene Stylers Collection. I have a weakness for hair products (you guys know this) so I couldn't wait to get my hands on the Blow Out Extend Dry Shampoo and Flexible Hold Hair Spray. I used these products to create three different hairstyles to help beat the heat. To top it off, I styled each look with some BaubleBar jewelry to add a little sparkle.
Riffraff V Neck Top | Blair Ritchey PAK Clutch
Side Braid Ponytail- This is an easy look for second day hair. I start by using Pantene Blowout Extend Dry Shampoo. The smell is awesome and it gives my hair a fresh ...
Beauty Talk | Sun Care
After spending the past 8 days at the beach, I figured it was only fitting to squeeze in a little sun care 101 into this weeks Beauty Talk. For years we have been told to pile on the SPF before heading out into the sun, but have we all followed this rule?
I have to thank my mom (who has great skin I should add) for always making me wear SPF 75+ growing up. Yes, I would roll my eyes because all my friends would spread pure oil on their bodies to get that real golden tan. I always wanted to get that tan. I laugh now, because that is pretty ridiculous and not to mention dangerous. I'm not perfect in this area, but I can say I try my best to take care of my skin and hair when in the sun.
Sun Bum is a skin care brand that I have used and always go back to. My favorite is the Sun Bum Face Stick with SPF 30. It's oil free and hypoallergenic. My face is pretty sensitive, so it was important to find something that wouldn't irritate my skin or cause breakouts. I thought that I needed more than SPF 30 for my face but after attending a few workshops focusing on SPF awareness, I realized it's not necessarily the amount, but how often you apply. You can't just put on your sunscreen in the morning and forget about it for the rest of the day. You have to be conscious to remember to reapply. I take a
Beauty Talk | Pink Lips
Lip color has always been one my favorite beauty buys. No matter how I feel or whatever mood I'm in, buying a lipgloss can always cheer me up! By the looks of it, I am a true fan of the pinks. These are some of my favorites and ones that have proved to be the most flattering on various skin tones (at least according to tons of reviews). This YSL Lipgloss is the absolute best pink, it lasts for hours and keeps my lips super soft. What do you use...any favorites?
