Now that school is in full swing, I am constantly on the lookout for products to keep my hair "fresh" in between shampoos. I love trying new things. And anything that promises longer lasting blow outs is alright by me!
I was recently introduced to Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray and I have used it everyday since. I was a little nervous about trying something with the word "thick" in the title because usually volume fillers and thickeners weigh my hair down. This is the complete opposite. It's so lightweight...you almost wonder if it's even in your hair.
One trick that helps me get a little volume and "refresh" my hair, is using the blow dryer (review coming soon on this dryer!) on low heat to set the spray. I know "set" makes it sound sticky or crunchy, but I promise it's not! I lift a layer of my hair around the root, flip it to the other side, and spray close to the root. I hold the blow dryer there for maybe 5 seconds and then do the same thing on the other side. I use my Spornette "Little Wonder" teasing comb to brush through my roots and sometimes even do a soft back comb to add some lift. It's the best little trick for a quick touch up!

Beauty Talk | Bobbi Brown
For the past year, I went through a phase where I couldn't find a foundation that was right for me. Sure it looked great when the lady at the counter applied it, but when I got home I never felt 100% about it. Buying makeup for me is all about the research. It's rare that I just walk into Nordrstrom or Sephora without a game plan. That never goes well and always results in a trip back for a return or a stupid amount of money spent on silly things.
This time I was on the hunt for a new foundation. Bobbi Brown is a brand that I have used for years but have never considered for a foundation. With the school year starting, I wanted something that was light, had spf, and felt good on my skin. The Skin Foundation seemed to have it all and after reading countless (positive) reviews, I thought I would give it a try. Not only did I love it, but my skin has never felt better. It's the only foundation I have used that is light but gives great coverage. When I was perusing through all the comments about the makeup, I noticed that the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Brush kept coming up in conversations. People were raving about this brush and it immediately struck my curiosity. I can't get over this brush. Seriously, this brush is ...
Beauty Talk | Sun Care
After spending the past 8 days at the beach, I figured it was only fitting to squeeze in a little sun care 101 into this weeks Beauty Talk. For years we have been told to pile on the SPF before heading out into the sun, but have we all followed this rule?
I have to thank my mom (who has great skin I should add) for always making me wear SPF 75+ growing up. Yes, I would roll my eyes because all my friends would spread pure oil on their bodies to get that real golden tan. I always wanted to get that tan. I laugh now, because that is pretty ridiculous and not to mention dangerous. I'm not perfect in this area, but I can say I try my best to take care of my skin and hair when in the sun.
Sun Bum is a skin care brand that I have used and always go back to. My favorite is the Sun Bum Face Stick with SPF 30. It's oil free and hypoallergenic. My face is pretty sensitive, so it was important to find something that wouldn't irritate my skin or cause breakouts. I thought that I needed more than SPF 30 for my face but after attending a few workshops focusing on SPF awareness, I realized it's not necessarily the amount, but how often you apply. You can't just put on your sunscreen in the morning and forget about it for the rest of the day. You have to be conscious to remember to reapply. I take a
Beauty Talk | Pink Lips
Lip color has always been one my favorite beauty buys. No matter how I feel or whatever mood I'm in, buying a lipgloss can always cheer me up! By the looks of it, I am a true fan of the pinks. These are some of my favorites and ones that have proved to be the most flattering on various skin tones (at least according to tons of reviews). This YSL Lipgloss is the absolute best pink, it lasts for hours and keeps my lips super soft. What do you use...any favorites?

Beauty Talk | Dry Shampoo
Have you ever tried dry shampoo? Let me let you in on a little secret...dry shampoo is the best and something I use on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. Dry shampoo is designed to be used as a "day after" spray. It dilutes excess oil in your roots and often provides a refreshing smell to give you hair the look and smell of it being freshly washed. I don't know about you, but I hate drying my hair, curling it, and doing that whole process everyday. Using a dry shampoo a couple days out of the week helps me skip those steps and still get the same results. Not to mention, it cuts down the "getting ready process" and gives you a few extra zzz's.
Now, I've tried many different dry shampoos and I can honestly say that I don't have just one that's my favorite. They either work or they don't. It's that simple. Dry Clean Only by Sebastian is one that I really like thanks to the girls at Society Salon. It's the first one that I've tried that is an actual hairspray and dry shampoo. I was a little nervous about trying it because I don't ever use hair spray on my roots. I typically like to run my fingers through my hair so the thought of spraying the top with hairspray kind of turned me off. I was wrong! This stuff is great! It doesn't have a powdery color or tint to it, but it actually makes me hair appear less ...
Beauty Talk | Summer Favorites
Oh sweet Summer! Most of you know that I am a full time teacher to 22 1st graders and I blog in my free time and at night. Both keep me very busy, but it's a hobby that I truly enjoy! With that being said, I am doing a little happy dance this morning while sipping my coffee and catching up on the Bachelorette as I fully enjoy my first day of Summer Break!
When I think of Summer, a few things come to mind. No school (duh!), vacations, and my favorite products that I always have on hand. Today, I will share with you some of those Summer "must haves" that get me through the season.
With the Dallas heat and humidity, my hair can be a hot mess. I have to use product in order to keep it smooth and hydrated. The Dry Bar 100 Proof Treatment Oil is a life savor. I have thick hair, but it can also be used to fine (just use a pea size amount). It can be used on wet hair before blowdrying, or on dry hair to help smooth and add shine. I use it on "next day hair" and just run a tiny amount through my ends. The smell is great and it makes my hair look freshly washed and styled. Summer is all about colors but sometimes I love the soft "chalky" nail polishes against my tanned skin. Essie is my favorite brand for polishes. I love the way the colors go on and I find this brand to stay on longer than any others that I've tried. The two colors I love for Summer are
Beauty Talk | Clarins Double Serum
Last month, I mentioned the Clarins Giveaway featuring the Double Serum and since then, I have been looking forward to this review! Thank you for all who entered by using the tag #30DaysofBeautiful on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook! It has been so fun looking through the hashtag pictures and seeing what you all posted.
Since my first post introducing the Clarins Double Serum, I have been determined to use this product daily. Even with my sensitive skin this stuff is super gentle. The serum is pretty concentrated so you only need to use one pump every morning and night. Within the first 7 days of using the Double Serum, I noticed a difference in my skins texture and appearance. My skin looks instantly hydrated and feels amazing. I tend to suffer from the occasional break out, and this stuff helped keep all of that under control. Anything that can hydrate and keep my skin clear is a winner in my book! I look forward to using more of the Clarins products in my daily skin care routine.
Beauty Talk | Bronze Goddess
I don't know about you guys, but Summer is on it's way and I am in desperate need for a little color. Usually, I don't like to spend much time in the sun and if I do I am lathered up with SPF 50+. Great for the skin, but doesn't help me out in the tan department. Around this time, I start to bring out the self tanners and the bronzer. I do wear a little bronzer all year to add some face definition, but now is the time when I guess you could say I add a little more?
I feel like I have tried so many brands/colors and I finally found a few that seem to work well for me. My goal when looking for a bronzer is 1. No glitter or heavy shimmer (if any at all) 2. No hint of orange (my skin tends to be oily so it can turn certain bronzers orange by the end of the day...yuck!) and 3. Nothing crazy dark (I want this to look as natural as possible...duh!) Below are a few that make me pretty happy!
1. Bare Minerals Faux Tan Loose Powder- Ok, I was a little nervous to try this because the powder looks pretty dark. While I do like to wear bronzer, I have to be careful because my skin is pretty light. This worked for me because it is a matte finish. It's not shimmery at all and isn't as dark as it looks. You definitely want to follow the whole "swirl, tap, brush" philosophy that BM encourages to prevent it from looking too harsh. This stuff is awesome. Highly recommend!

Happy Tuesday! I have been receiving quite a few comments and emails regarding products that I have tried and loved. As I've mentioned before, I love this little series. My goal is to give you real feedback for products that I legitimately use on a daily or weekly basis. Today, I am sharing my top nine favorite products. These are the things that either get me through the day, or products I just love to use! Please feel free to email me or leave me a comment with any questions or requests. And as always, I love to hear what you guys use, so let me know your favorites as well! XX
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray- This is magic in a can. The Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is amazing because it's formulated for all hair types and is meant to be used a few different ways. I use this product as a dry shampoo, however it is used by many as a way to add volume and texture to fine or thin hair.Typically styling aids add a little shine, but this doesn't (which is why I love it). It doesn't make my hair dull, but it definitely minimizes the oil around my roots. The smell is also incredible. I never thought I'd spend $42 bucks on a dry shampoo/texturizer....but when my hairdresser kept using this on me I feel in love with it more and more!
Nars Lipgloss in Priscilla- Nars in general is one of my favorite makeup brands. Their products are super pigmented and they ...
Beauty Talk | Kat Burki
Today, I am excited to share with you a skin care brand that is new to me, Kat Burki. When I first heard about this brand, I immediately fell in love with the packaging and the fact that the whole line is natural based. It's easy for products to say "all natural" but Kat Burki is truly 100% natural. She uses the highest quality vitamins and essentials oils in each product. Every ingredient is chosen for their ability to improve skin texture and firmness, all while keeping your skin nourished. The best part? None of her products have parabens, synthetic dyes, sulfates, petrolatum or mineral oils.
First things first, the Hand Therapy Cream. Woah! Working with 6 year olds has me using way too much hand sanitizer and while my hands are clean, they are also super dry. I have used it every day for the last week and I have noticed a huge difference. The Hand Therapy Cream is high in Vitamin A and Sunflower Seed Oil so it helps my hands stay hydrated throughout the day. My hands feel like silk!
Remember a couple months ago when I asked for advice on good lip treatments? Well, now I have met my match! The Glossy Lip Treatment is Kat's number one selling product and I can see why. It's the perfect solution to keep my lips looking shiny but also nourished. The treatment is made with coconut ...
