With a new season approaching, it’s time to start transitioning our summer makeup to something a little more neutral or bold for Fall. Just like we switch up our wardrobe, the same is true for our makeup.
Here are a few easy ways to freshen up your makeup bag for fall.
Before I start sharing my recent beauty finds, what better way to store your makeup than a personalized makeup bag or monogrammed acrylic case? These are two items that will definitely last you all year long, and are perfect for storing your makeup or jewelry.
Makeup brushes can make all the difference when applying foundation or contouring. Recently, I purchased 3 new brushes from Sigma Beauty. I am new to the brand, but was pretty impressed with the reviews and the price point. Brushes can be so expensive, but these seemed more affordable than most and still maintained good quality.
So are they worth it? Yes! These brushes are amazing. They are made from Sigmax Synthetic Fibers, meaning they don’t absorb liquid or cream foundations and I have found that they don’t shed like many natural hair brushes. Using these brushes have made a huge difference with applying my makeup and how it appears on my skin. I use the F80 Flat Kabuki Brush for applying foundation, the F84 Angled Kabuki Brush for my cream contour kit, and the F86 Tapered Kabuki Brush when applying concealer or highlighter.
I am still on the hunt for a brush cleaner. Do you guys have any that you recommend? Currently, I am using a gentle shampoo, but would like something a little easier if possible.
There’s nothing quite like a new lip color, am I right? I love wearing pinks and corals, but figured it was time to switch things up for fall. I tried on so many nudes, plums, and mauves and found two that I loved and seemed to work well for my skin tone.
YSL is a brand that I use often and I have heard great things about the ‘Rouge Pur Couture’ Lipstick. After trying on so many, I finally found one that resembled the perfect nude pink. “Rose Carnation” has been my go to for the past several weeks. It’s not bold, but it’s a great nude/pink for everyday.
MAC also makes great makeup that doesn’t break the bank. I love their new Mineralize Collection. This Mineralize Rich Lipstick in the color “Grande Dame” is a great berry shade. It’s bold, without being too dark. This Bobbie Brown Lipgloss in “Almost Nude” is a great gloss to wear over either color. I know, I always talk about that gloss, but it really is that good!
However, my absolute favorite is this Chanel Lipliner in the color “Natural”. This is by far the most versatile product I use. I wear this color with any shade. I finally broke down and purchased this after seeing a friend where it and (always) complimenting her. This shade is pretty neat because you can use it to “add volume” to your lips. I know that’s a given with any lipliner, but this is so close to my skin tone, so it really makes a plump lip without looking like liner. It’s true to it’s name and very natural…not harsh at all.
Moving onto eyes, this 5 in 1 BB Cream Eyeshadow is one of my newest obsessions. I received a little sample of it and loved it so much I went back to buy the full size. Honestly, I would have never tried this if it wasn’t for that sample. Funny how that works, right?
I like to wear this alone, and on special occasions I’ll pair it with my Bobbi Brown Cream Eyeshadow Stick. I wear the color “Soft Linen” and find that it brightens my eyes and still looks natural. It doesn’t crease either!
As you know, I love products to help my brows…goodness knows they need it. I have used Brow Wiz for the last year (and love it) but when my pencil ran out, I was curious to see what else was out there. I found that I really like this brow pencil by YSL. Like the Brow Wiz, it has a brush at the end to help with blending.
So far, I like this YSL pencil better. It’s a little softer, and goes on easier. I find that it blends really well., especially when using the brush at the end. I use the Couture Brow after applying the pencil, to give my brows texture and to help them stay in place. I use the Blond color and find that it blends really well. I was afraid this duo would be too harsh, but I find it to be very natural looking.
Ok, let’s not talk about the name of this little mascara, but let discuss how amazing it is. I was very curious to try this mascara after hearing so many mixed reviews. The girl at the makeup counter actually tried to convince me to try another one, but I figured the small tube wouldn’t be a huge investment.
So what did I think? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I really like it! I haven’t had trouble with clumping or flakes, and as far as I’m concerned it’s just as good as my favorite Bobbi Brown and Lancome mascaras. It’s worth a try!

There are 2 brush cleaners I love. One is from Beauty Blender called BeautyCleanser. I use it on brushes and the Beauty Blender sponge. The other one is from Clean Apothecary. Both are solid shampoos that you wet and then swirl your wet brush in. They are pricey but will last a really long time. =)

Hi Debbie! Thanks for your comment. I had someone also email me and comment on IG about the Beauty Blender Cleanser, so it’s safe to say that I will definitely try it out! Thanks for the rec! xx Ashley

I feel like so many people love the Better than Sex mascara and when I tried it, it just did not work for me 🙁 But so many of my friends swear by it! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi Madeline,
Thank you for your feedback! I agree, it’s more helpful to see the products actually applied. For this post, I simply wanted to share a few resources and answer some questions I have received about Fall beauty. I am however, working on a makeup post where I will be including step by step photos and close ups of the colors. That should go live around mid-late October. I appreciate your comment and thanks so much for reading!
