Summer Beauty Essentials

Now that Summer is officially here, it’s time to make some changes in our beauty routine. This time each year, I always find myself going a shade darker in my foundation, loading on the SPF and testing out my new favorite self tanners. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite makeup & haircare products that seem to get the job done during these Summer months. Most of these are on sale too! Here’s a few worth mentioning:

SWEAT PROOF FOUNDATION

One of the questions I get asked the most, is what foundation I recommend. Honestly, I have a few that I love and would purchase over and over again. There are so many great products on the market! For me, I look for foundation that has a medium coverage, yet still let’s your skin breath, and SPF. I found a couple that I would recommend during these Summer months!

ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR FOUNDATION

I really can’t say enough about this foundation (and it’s on sale). I love it! However, it’s not necessary for everyone. This product is waterproof and long lasting (I mean lasts 10+  hours). I wear this if I am shooting photos or have back to back meetings.

Unfortunately, I did not discover this product until l after I left the classroom or this would have been ideal. This foundation is medium coverage, yet doesn’t look too think or heavy. I apply this with my beautyblender. I highly recommend the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation (I wear 3W1 shade “Tawny”)

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Gel Cream with SPF 30

In terms of BB creams or Tinted Moisturizers, this is one of the best I’ve tried. I like this for day-to-day wear in the Summer and find that it helps keep my skin clear and doesn’t clog my pores. It’s lightweight, SPF 30 and let’s your skin breath. It has a sheer to medium coverage, but it is “buildable”. Meaning, you can apply it once, let it dry for a minute, and apply a second layer if you want a heavier coverage.

The Complexion Rescue Gel is perfect for the beach, or if you want a natural look. I like this product because it feels cool when you apply it to your skin. It’s really nice! In terms of “lasting power” it definitely doesn’t last as long as the Double Wear, but it did stay on for the majority of the day.

BOBBI BROWN BEIGE SHIMMER BRICK

As a long time fan of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, I’ve accumulated many of her products over the years. I like the Shimmer Brick (on sale !) because it gives the right amount of “glow” without being too heavy or overdone. My favorite color is the Beige. It’s a cooler shade for bronzer, which I like, because bronzers tend to turn orange on my skin. It looks very natural and subtle as a highlighter and it’s easy to use on your cheeks for contouring. I’ve learned when applying, start with a “light hand”. This stuff is very pigmented and it’s easy to go overboard if you apply too much. I use my NARS Ita Contouring Brush or my Bobbi Brown Sheer Powder Face Brush to apply this bronzer.

SUMMER FRAGRANCE: TOM FORD SOLEIL BLANC

This new perfume by Tom Ford literally smells like the beach in a bottle. I mean that in the best way possible! It’s light, fresh and reminds me of Summer. Not only is the packaging super chic on your dresser, but the perfume itself actually lasts several hours.

LONGWEAR LIPSTICK & SPF LIP BALM

It’s no secret I am a fan of the Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick. I’ve tried so many and while they are all pretty amazing, Stila doesn’t dry my lips out. My favorite colors are “Rosa” and “Caramello” mixed. “Rosa” also looks pretty mixed with a red or orange color.

I am new to the brand Supergoop! but have read many great things about their products. When outside, I typically try to sit in the shade or not be in the sun too much. However, I do like to protect my lips. This lip balm is very moisturizing and has SPF 30. This is in my makeup bag at all times! If you want to use this with a Matte or long lasting lipstick, be sure to apply a good 2-4 minutes before using your lipstick.

CREASE PROOF EYESHADOW

Yes, there really is such a thing! I have tried several eyeshadows and primers that claim to be crease proof, but these are by far the easiest to use and work really well. If you like the idea of a shadow stick, I use Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick (I wear “Sunlight Gold”) and Laura Mercier ‘Caviar’Stick Eye Color (I love “Sugar Frost”). You can apply these directly to your eye then blend with a brush, or rub on the brush then apply to your eyelid. I also love Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow (shade “Beach Honey”). This pinky gold is so pretty and very subtle.

SAY GOODBYE TO FRIZZ

When it comes to haircare, I am always looking to try new products, but I have a few that I am very loyal to. This is one of them! While I did not like the Shampoo and Conditioner in this line, the Humidity Shield worked for me. I love the smell (so so good!) and it left a subtle sheen on my hair to prevent frizz. It’s lightweight and did not weigh my hair down. Remember, it’s not a hairspray with actual hold, so you would still want to use your normal hairspray to hold your curls or style.
