This may surprise you, but I love packing. There’s just something about organizing and planning my outfits that gives me a sense of relief and helps me stay sane during the stress of traveling. Austin, on the other hand, takes more of a “last minute” approach. Opposites attract, right? This Christmas, Austin and I are heading to stay with his family on Christmas Eve, then going to stay with my family for Christmas dinner. Next week, my side of the family are heading to California to surprise my Grandfather for his birthday. He is turning 80 (!) and we are so excited to fly out and celebrate him.
This is a very special time for us because we don’t get to see my grandparents as much as we would like. There have been a few times this year where Austin and I have been in LA for work and we stopped by to say hi, but it’s not very often. Some of you may not know this, but I actually grew up (1-10 yrs old) in Orange County. We lived very close to my grandparents and saw them every Sunday at church and a few times throughout the week. It was a significant time for me and something I will always cherish. I am really looking forward to next week. And yes, we will be back at Disney. Eeek!
While it is freezing for most us, LA is in the low 60’s. Crazy right? I am not complaining by any means, but you may see some pieces here that aren’t exactly “winter”. Lots of light layers and easy to pack shoes are what I am including in my suitcase. I’ve listed below a few of my go-to packing tips!
I am taking the next few days off, but will be back on the 26th! I plan to continue posting to snapchat and instagram, so feel free to follow along!
I hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday! Enjoy the weekend with your loved ones! Thank you so much for making this blog a part of your day. xx Ashley
THINK VERSATILITY
While packing can be a daunting task, it’s important to not over do it. My friends and co-workers are always socked to see how little I bring with me on trips. I really try to only bring what I need. That way, if I happen to pick something up on my trip, there’s a little wiggle room in my suitcase.
Depending on the length of my trip, I usually bring two pairs of jeans (I packed these & these) and a pair of leggings or black skinny jeans. These go with just about anything and take up minimal space in your bag.
DRESS SMART
I always try to wear on the plane my bulkiest items. For example, I will wear my over the knee boots and jacket to allow more space in my suitcase. Like I mentioned above, the weather in LA isn’t quite as cold as it’s been in Dallas, but I know it will get chilly at night.
NEUTRALS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND
You guys know how much I love neutrals so this probably does not come as a surprise for you. But really, neutrals are a great way to get the most out of your wardrobe while traveling. This cozy sweater is perfect with boyfriend jeans or black skinny jeans and looks great with my Rockstud Flats or Leather Booties.
I also consider stripes to be a neutral since they are so easy to wear with just about anything. I always bring some type of striped top with me on any trip. This Striped Turtleneck (also seen here) and Red Crossbody (budget friendly version here) It’s an easy, no-fail option when I don’t want to put in too much thought in my outfit.
Less is more!
I always take with my some of my favorite beauty products with me while traveling. A mini hairspray, pressed powder, and lip balm just to name a few. This Henri Bendel Cosmetic Pouch has been a great travel accessory. It can also double as a clutch, which makes it even more likable.
I have a review on my makeup products in my holiday makeup tutorial. I linked everything else in the widget below!
