Let’s face it, we all have our routines and habits. And while it can be hard to break a habit, it is a good idea to change up your beauty routine with the start of a new season. Whether that’s wearing a brighter lip or changing up your moisturizer for warmer weather, it’s a good idea to pay close attention to you skin needs. And just like we “spring clean” around the house, we can’t forget to take a look in our beauty bag.
With the changing seasons, we are always updating our wardrobe. Why not freshen up your beauty routine?
5 Simple Ways to Spring Clean your Beauty Routine
1. UPDATE YOUR SKIN CARE
Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to stash away those heavy-duty moisturizers and swap out your face cream for something a little lighter. I’ve been using TULA Hydrating Day and Night Cream with the Illuminating Face Serum and have been loving the formula. It’s lightweight, yet gives my skin the hydration it needs.
You all know that TULA is not a new product for me. I use the Purifying Face Cleanser every day and am a big advocate of their Urban Defense Hydrating Mist (it’s so good). I find the face cream + illuminating serum to be the perfect duo for smooth, hydrated skin. Especially during this time of year!
You can get 20% off + free shipping on your TULA purchase with code “TEACHERDIVASPRING” valid through 6/1/2017.
My makeup bag from this Instagram is from tde. My newest obsession! It’s the perfect size for travel.
2. SHAMPOO YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES
A few weeks ago I did a little snapchat video on how I clean my makeup brushes. Little did I know so many of you would be interested in that! But to be honest, I need to be better about cleaning my brushes. My dermatologist is always talking to me about the bacteria that lives in makeup brushes. Yuck! It’s so important to wash them regularly for our skin health and complexion. She recommends giving the brushes a good shampoo twice a month.
I like to use the beautycleanser solid. It’s essentially a gentle bar soap that is ideal for deep cleaning your makeup brushes. After sharing on snapchat, a reader recommended I try silicon cleansing pad on my brushes. Thank you, Amy! Being curious myself, I ordered one. I love it! There is a handle on the back for easy use, and it really gives my brushes a good shampoo. I highly recommend this cleansing pad.
3. OUT WITH THE OLD
It’s always a good idea to pay attention to your expiration dates on your products. Spring is a great time to toss your old product and replenish. I know it can be easy to hold on to the things we love, but it can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. Of course there is the debate that things have a longer shelf life than they actually say, but from what I hear, that is only by 2 or 3 months.
While looking through your beauty drawer, pay close attention to the “period after opening” symbol (it looks like a jar with an opened lid, and it features a number next to the letter “M”). I will usually get a sharpie and write the date that I open the product next to the PAO symbol. This acts as a great reminder!
4. DON’T FORGET THE SPF
Wearing sunscreen is important all year long, but as we find ourselves spending more and more time outside, SPF is essential. I always opt for a stronger SPF during this time of year. A few of my favorites include the Supergoop SPF 50 Setting Mist and SkinCeuticals UV Defense Sunscreen. The setting spray is nice because it helps lock in your makeup, while giving you that added sun protection. I gave my teacher friends this as a gift to use before they head out to recess. It was a big hit! You can also store it in the fridge or on ice, for a nice refresher during a hot summer day.
I also love the SkinCeuticals UV Defense Sunscreen. This lightweight formula is ideal for daily use and easy to incorporate in your beauty routine. I use this after my TULA Hydrating Cream to keep my skin protected from damaging rays. It’s user preference, but these are both great options for sunscreen.
5. HELLO, COLOR!
I shared a few of my favorite lipsticks for spring here, but I always recommend wearing brighter colors during the spring and summer season. Pinks, Corals and reds are always perfect for this time of year. My favorites include the NARS Velvet Lip Pencil in Lodi. It’s a traditional coral. Perfect for the gal who isn’t quite ready to do bright red. The Hourglass Liquid Lip in Edition [also seen here] is also a great long-wear lip color. My only issue with this in the applicator. It’s very flexible which can make it hard to apply evenly. However, the color and formula is so good, I can’t pass it up. For the girl who loves pink, you should try Georgio Armani Rouge Sheer Lipstick in 502. I typically don’t wear sheer colors, but I really loved the pink color and found it perfect for everyday. The formula is very moisturizing and does not dry out your lips. This is a great alternative if you want to give your long-wear lipsticks a break! STILA Stay All Day Lipliner in Rosé is so amazing. Katey introduced me to this and I love the color. She was right, it is the best long-wear lipliner on the market! Last but not least, the Chantecaille Matte Lipstick in Jerry is another great option. This pinky coral is so pretty! I have another review of this lipstick here.

Love this post! SPF is my best friend. If there’s anything I always put on my face before I walk out the door, it’s an SPF moisturizer…
