My Top 10 Liked Instagram Posts from 2017

As we near the end of 2017, I wanted to share with you the most popular Instagram posts from my feed for 2017. Based on your likes and comments, these are your favorites from the year. (And of course, with updated outfit details!)

Instagram Year in Review

This post was built using data from my Instagram analytics for this year. I always try to keep pretty close tabs on the weekly and monthly performance to see what your favorites were. However, looking at an entire year was very interesting. I was a little surprised at what was “liked” more than others and what “style of photo” performed best. You all know that my blog is my primary source for content, but Instagram is another platform I enjoy using to share new content.

Interesting Tidbits from 2017

• Torso shots performed higher than others 
• This Long-Line Cardigan was your favorite piece this year (mine too- I bought it in three colors)
• IG Story content has been really fun and you guys like to see my day-to-day and behind the scenes of blogging. It has been fun talking with you all through DM’s and comments. It honestly makes me feel like we are gal pals!
• Practical, everyday style that can transition to the weekend is preferred
• Most of you think Lucy is cute 🙂

Instagram Algorithm

If you follow Instagram closely, you know that they’ve made some significant changes to how content is displayed to you. Instagram no longer displays your feed in chronological order. Instead, the content you see on your feed is determined by the Instagram algorithm. The algorithm chooses what it believes to be content that you would most enjoy and actively supposes other content. Unfortunately, the details are mostly a mystery and Instagram does not publish any official information on how it works. Moreover, Instagram is constantly tweaking its algorithm for your Home feed and Explore page.  And most recently, Instagram will be pushing Recommended for You content to your Home tab. These changes have definitely affected how you see content on Instagram.

In our survey last month (which we will be talking about more on Sunday), many of you stated that you didn’t see my Instagram images on your feed as often. And some of you thought I left Instagram completely! But the reason isn’t because I’m posting less. In fact, I’m probably posting more. Unfortunately, you’ve probably been a victim of Instagram suppressing content (which is so frustrating).

How the Instagram Algorithm Works

Unfortunately, we don’t really know how it really works. And the algorithm constantly changing. What we do know is that Instagram tries to guess what content you like best. It gets this information based on what you photos you like, comment, and interact with. This probably explains why I have so many french bulldog accounts pop up on my feed. Ha!

If you want to see more content from me, here are some things to try.

Interact

The most effective way to ensure content shows up on your feed is to simply interact with your favorite accounts. That means:

1. “Like” Photos
2. Comment on the photo. And hey- if you think a friend will like it too, share it with them!
3. View the User profile for posts you may have missed
4. Watching & Replying to Stories

Don’t be afraid to say hi. I really enjoy talking to all of you either by DM or comments. It’s great to hear from other readers. I make an effort to reply to each and every one of you.

Turn on Post Notifications

To turn post notifications on, go to the @ashleyrobertson user profile and in the top right, tap on the … icon. Tap Turn on Post Notifications and you are all set. You’ll get a notification every time I post something on Instagram. I rarely post more than once a day, so it definitely won’t spam your phone notifications.

And in all honestly, I thought Post Notifications would be really annoying. But after reading your comments, it was clear that some of you were upset about not seeing my (and other influencers) images in your feed. I actually tested this out with four accounts just to see if I was going to be overloaded with notifications. Surprisingly I wasn’t. Many accounts I follow only post 1-2 times a day, so it wasn’t causing my phone to light up with alerts.
