We all have a favorite lip balm. The one we throw in our purse, leave on the nightstand and pack on every trip. And if you’re like me, you may have a couple you consider your “must haves”.
Smooth, soft lips make the perfect base for any lipstick application. But with the cold temperatures and the dry air, my lips are in need of some extra hydration. Below are my trustworthy lip treatments for softer lips.
4 Steps to Get Soft and Plump Lips
STEP ONE: FRENCH GIRL ROSE LIP POLISH
This is my secret to smooth and plump lips. I almost always do this before applying a matte lipstick or heading out for the night. I like this one by French Girl Organics and find that it’s gentle, yet effective. All you need is a small amount of the lip scrub and gently rub in circular motions onto the lips. This will moisturize and slough off dead skin. Trust me, you’re lips with feel silky smooth after this! The packaging claims you don’t have to apply a lip balm after, but I like to apply the sleeping mask or lip balm depending on the time of day for an extra boost.
STEP TWO: LANEIGE SLEEPING LIP MASK
I got this lip mask for Christmas and have quickly become obsessed (I’ve actually used this every night for the past 2 weeks). If you were to only add one thing from this post to your beauty routine, let it be the Sleeping Lip Mask. After one night, my lips were softer and appeared more hydrated. It has been the best lip treatment I have ever tired! This is my first product from Laneige, but after the results from this, I’m wondering what else I’m missing out on. Let us know if you have tried anything from this line in the comments below or on Instagram.
STEP THREE: LIP BALM (BY TERRY Baume de Rose Crystalline
or AERIN Rose Lip Balm)
It’s no wonder the By Terry Baume de Rose Crystalline has become a cult-like item for even the most casual beauty fans. Though it comes with a hefty price tag, I found it to live up to the hype. It’s also a brilliant cuticle treatment and can be used to soothe any dry patches. I have researched and tested several other lip balms but the only one I found to be similar is the Aerin Lip Balm. This one is the most similar in ingredients, formula and texture. They are both incredibly nourishing and not too sticky. You can’t go wrong with either one! An all-natural one that I would recommend is the Lip Conditioner from BeautyCounter.
STEP FOUR: DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
This doesn’t come as a surprise, but drinking plenty of water is key for hydrated skin. Personally, I find it really hard to drink water throughout the day. It helps keeping a large water bottle at my desk or infusing it with fruit. This one has a time tracker on the side to help you track your water intake. I find it so helpful!

Loved learning about French Girl during the Nordstrom v Goop. Also, got the By Terry hand cream and that lip. Love! Although, the hand cream is a little ‘old lady grandma rose smelling’ for me. 😉

Hi Ashley! I use the face sleeping mask by Laneige as well. I travel a lot for work and it helps protect my skin from the dry, hotel air. Btw what nail polish color are you wearing in the photos?
Ashley Robertson says
Hi Neena,
So good to hear that you also enjoy the sleeping mask! I believe this is the CND Nail Polish in Romantique. xx, Ashley
