Girl on a Budget: The Striped Cardigan Under $25

We all love a good deal around here. And when I saw this striped cardigan for under $25, I knew you would also be interested. 

I know, I know. A sweater ringing up at under $25 it seems too good to be true. And to be honest, I thought the same thing. But knowing how much you guys enjoy the Girl on a Budget series and being curious myself, I went ahead and purchased.

First impressions? Well, the material is actually pretty thick and surprisingly soft. Here, I layered it with my black bodysuit but could easily see myself wearing this with a silky cami in the spring. In terms of sizing, I did find it to run a bit large. I am in a small but it fits closer to a medium. I love the oversized look and feel, so that was not a problem. Shipping took a few days longer than I expected, but I received the sweater in less than 2 weeks. Overall, I am pretty impressed. Who knows how long this will hold up, but hey, for $25 bucks it’s a pretty good find.

I’ve had a few of you report your disappointment about the quality of the SUNMMWERY sweater. It seems there may be some sporadic quality control issues with the vendor.

As always, I test every product before recommending it. The sweater I purchased and received was great and the exact same sweater I am wearing in these photos. I did not have any of the quality issues that some of you reported. This is extremely disappointing to hear that so many of you were sent an entirely different sweater. I have reached out to SUNMMWERY and was given a very poor response. Stating that they only send the “best quality” and that any defective sweater was ordered from a different shop, not theirs. We all know that is not true. 

I can assure you, I ordered this exact sweater from this link. I actually just purchased this sweater again and will let you guys know what I receive.

If you look at the recent Amazon reviews, the ratings are quite split. People are usually either very happy or very dissatisfied with the sweater, which leads me to believe that there are some quality control issues.

First, I sincerely apologize if you got a poor quality sweater. In all transparency, many of you have expressed that you want to see the “Girl on a Budget” series more often. With that in mind,  I have been doing  a lot of research and purchasing several tops or sweaters from budget friendly stores and vendors. The crazy thing is, THIS was one of the only sweaters I was actually impressed with. I must have ordered 11 items and only kept this and one other top. I’ve received several DM’s from happy customers styling their sweater which appears to be identical to mine and several that are a poor imitation. If this is you, please know that Amazon has a great and painless return policy. I would return it for a full refund. Some third party vendors will try to convince you for a partial refund, but you should be entitled for a FULL refund.

Second, THANK YOU for letting me know about this.I know this has made a lot of you very upset about this and so am I. But know that I always enjoy hearing about the products you guys are loving or not loving. TTD readers are a community and I want us to always feel free to share here with each other.

*UPDATE 2/14/2018

My order came in today and it is the exact same version of the sweater I am wearing in these photos. Not sure what the issue is, but clearly something is up. My sister-in-law- also ordered this and sent me a photo and it is the exact same version that I am wearing. If you are ordering this sweater be sure you order this one and not a “similar style” that may pop up on Amazon. Hope this helps!

  7. I was so excited to order this cardigan from the same site you suggested. Unfortunately, I will be returning it. What I was sent had raw hem cuts and extremely cheap looking. The pattern match, but that was it. I had hanging strings all over, raw cut hems all around and the neckline was non existent. So disappointed!!

      This is very interesting and disappointing to hear! I have heard from others who purchased and they seem to have received the same exact one as me.         I had the exact same issue as Joanne: VERY poorly made – thin, cut incorrectly, lots of hanging thread, missing label/tag.

        After we saw it on you, my mom and I (both teachers! 🙂 wanted one, so we placed two separate orders and got different sizes. Mine came in a few days ago, and hers came today. I was waiting to see if both of them were the same quality, and unfortunately, they are.

        I just submitted return requests via Amazon. . . I’m hoping they’ll process a full refund.

  8. I was so excited to receive this cardigan but what I received did not look like the one worn here. The material is not the same and looks like it is just cut fabric on the front side without any hem. There are also no cuffs. Like another reader, I think I received an imitation product – I too ordered via the link posted. I contacted the seller who advised me not to return it.

    He said:

    “Sorry for your any inconvenience, please accept our sincere apologize. Could you give it to someone who can wear it ?We do not suggest you returning them back. We would like to offer you 40% refund as it takes high risk to deliver the item to us .As you know, the delivery company is very busy, there are a large number of orders need to be shipped every day. Many parcels need to be checked in the custom, so many parcels are stuck there for days, some even missing. It happens every year at this busy time. Please consider our suggestion and keep the item.
    Sorry again. waiting for your reply.
    Thanks a lot for your support and cooperation”
