The time for sun-kissed skin is here! And there’s nothing prettier than a fresh, glowing complexion. In the summer, I take the less is more approach. However, being someone who does struggle with breakouts and uneven skin tone, I do need some coverage.
My skincare always takes priority, but in the summer, I focus more on keeping my skin balanced, clear and continue to use my SPF (this spray is amazing). I’ll share more about my skincare routine later, but for today, let’s talk summer makeup.
Oh and be sure to check out my Instagram Stories for a video on how I use these products! I’ll be adding it to my highlights once it expires in case you miss it.
Scroll below for all the beauty essentials that will keep you looking relaxed and radiant for the summer season ahead. All were used to get the look in the photo above.
CONCEALER + FOUNDATION:
TARTE SHAPE TAPE (UNDEREYE HIGHLIGHT)
Since I have blemishes and dark spots, I need to conceal those areas. But I don’t want my makeup to be heavy or thick, especially in this Texas heat. The goal here is to let your skin breath, while still covering some of those imperfections. The key is to use very little and build on it. I use Shape Tape in the color “Light” for my undereye concealer but be careful! This can get VERY heavy. A little goes a long way. I went a little heavy in my video because I was covering some intense dark circles, but typically I use two dots under each eye and then blend out with this Sigma brush (also reviewed here). Shape Tape doesn’t crease and it has a subtle glow which makes it perfect for under eyes.
CLE DE PEAU CONCEALER (BLEMISHES + DARK SPOTS)
For my face, I use my all-time favorite Cle de Peau Concealer. I know, this isn’t cheap. But guys, it works. Did you know this is what celebrity makeup artists use to cover up tattoos? Yeah, it’s intense. I wear the color “Beige” and it blends in perfectly with my skin tone. As you can see in my IG stories, a little goes a long way!
MARC JACOBS BEAUTY SHAMELESS YOUTHFUL- LOOK FOUNDATION SPF 25
You might remember me sharing more about this a few months ago on IG stories, but I like this one because it checks every box. It’s not too heavy, has SPF 25, gives my skin a subtle glow and really does last all day. I wear shade Medium R300 and apply with my Hourglass Foundation Brush (LOVE this brush) and then use a beautyblender dupe to make sure everything is blended. I have tried beautyblender and this works just as good and is budget-friendly…check out my review here. Works like a charm!
I set my foundation with the Hourglass Powder Viel. I just started using this — so far I love it! Very light and breathable.
CONTOUR + BLUSH:
Summer is all about glowing skin and the Smashbox Cali Contour Palette is an all in one contour, bronze and highlight. I love my Kat Von D Shade + Light Palette, but it doesn’t have a highlighter in it. Which is fine when I am at home, but for travel, the Smashbox Palette is easier to pack and includes a highlight. The contour powders are cool toned and do not pull orange/red tones — which is major for me! I apply with my Tom Ford Bronzer Brush 05 and my Sigma F35 for under eyes.
NARS THE MULTIPLE (IN PORTOFINO)
The NARS Multiple is such an easy product to use (and lasts forever). Just a few dabs on your brush, and gently press into your skin. Gives a nice subtle hint of color and lasts all day.
EYESHADOW, LINER, MASCARA:
NARS x ERDEM STRANGE FLOWERS EYESHADOW PALETTE
This palette is so pretty and great for travel. I use the lightest shade to highlight under my brow, dust on my cupids bow or use all over my eyelid for a natural glow. The two center shades (the brown ones) look great for day or night.
You might remember this in my post from January, but I just love this eyeliner. It goes on like velvet and really does last all day. I love this for waterline too!
DIORSHOW LASH PRIMER + LANCOME MONSIEUR BIG MASCARA
I always use a primer on my lashes. Whether that’s an actual lash primer or another mascara, I am all about building long and voluminous lashes. The Diorshow Mascara Primer is amazing guys and really does work. This is my third or fourth time buying this. I received a press sample of the Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara and so far I am loving it. No flaking and really gives my lashes a boost.
BROWS:
I use this brow pencil to fill in my brows. I did a whole tutorial here + here. The key is to use small strokes to mimic the hair. I use the color 3 or 3.5.
LIPS:
You guys know I love the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in “Pillowtalk” and Lipstick in “Liv it Up”. Ah, it’s my all-time favorite duo!
For a plump pout, I use the Tata Harper Highlighter on my cupids bow for a little shimmer (or you could easily use the eyeshadow from the NARS Palette too). This gives the appearance of fuller lips — which is what I am all about.

Love the colors in that Smashbox contour palette. I’ve never been able to do light coverage for the same reasons, so I love this medium coverage look! Xx, Kelsey
