Here at The Teacher Diva, we strive to make a conscious effort in giving back to the community. And taking part in social good, whether during the holiday season or year round, is something that is more attainable than you may think. It does not necessarily only come in the shape of monetary donations. Below are a few ways to use your family, company or group of friends to give back to the community both locally and abroad, during the holidays and always. Feel free to drop a comment below with your favorite organization so others can check it out as well. Happy Holidays!

National Organizations
Toys for Tots– Toys for Tots collects toys which are then distributed to children whose parents are unable to buy them gifts for the holiday season. Find your local campaign and change a child’s holiday season!
Project Linus– This national organization focuses on the safety and needs of children by the donation of blankets. Have a blanket making party with your friends. These blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies or anywhere that a child might be in need.
Soliders’ Angels– This organization’s mission statement is “May no soldier go unloved”. There are various ways to support this organization, which I love. A few of those examples are Veteran Support, Deployed Support, Wounded Support and Family Support.
Meals on Wheels – This organization focuses on the well being of seniors so that they are never left hungry or isolated!
Ways to give back to your local community
Volunteer at your local Senior Center: Whether it’s getting a group of friends to sing holiday carols or simply conversing with the seniors, your time and thoughtfulness will bring much joy!
Volunteer at your local homeless shelter: Spend a morning over the weekend and serve those in need. This would be a great activity to do as a family or with a group of friends.
Volunteer at your food bank: With Thanksgiving and other holidays around the corner this is the perfect time to donate your time at a food bank. Just a few hours could change someone’s holiday experience!
Random Acts of Kindness
Pay it forward: Pay for someone’s meal behind you at the drive-thru line! That may motivate them to pay for someone else’s meal and before you know it you’ve created a chain of kindness and generosity!
Bring in Coffee or donuts for your co-workers one morning: Surprise your co-workers with coffee, donuts, breakfast tacos etc. It will make for one happy office!
Leave an encouraging note for a member of your family, significant other, roommate etc.: A little bit goes a long way. Leaving an encouraging note could truly make someone’s week!
