As someone who has colored and heat-styled her hair regularly for the past 15 years, my hair care routine is something that I take into careful consideration. And while it might be enticing to shop at luxury beauty stores to find the latest and greatest, hey I can be guilty of it too, regularly incorporating these types of products into our routine isn’t the healthiest strategy long-term for our bank accounts. And higher price tags don’t always mean it’s a better product.
About a month ago, I started to try my luck at this $8 shampoo and conditioner by Hair Food. What originally caught my eye (besides the price tag) was that it is made from pure ingredients and free of parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulfates and dyes. The proof of the power of these ingredients lies in the results. And my hair is all the better for it.
The Nourishing Collection with Coconut Milk & Chia Spice seemed to be the best option for my hair type. The shampoo and conditioner combination work to hydrate and strengthen hair, and help to keep your color looking brighter for longer.
I also picked up the Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Sulfate Free Smoothing Hair Mask (only $2.99). You might remember me talking about this on Instagram Stories back in February. I have been consistently using the mask once a week (so about 4 or 5 times) and when I went to see my hair stylist and she even noticed I had less breakage and my hair looked and felt visibly softer. The smoothing hair mask might be one of my favorite products from the entire Hair Food collection. I am able to get 2 or 3 uses out of one package, and when I washed it out, I was surprised at how well it managed my hair texture. Not only that, but I also noticed less breakage, fewer split ends and less frizz.
I’ve also heard it’s good to use a purifying shampoo at least once or twice a month. I think I might pick up the Hair Food Purifying Collection with Tea Tree and Lavender Water next time I’m at Target. It also has great reviews!
