A lot of people have smartwatches these days. I’m always somewhat mesmerized whenever I see someone read a notification, take a call, or track their fitness on their watch. Last week, I decided to join the smartwatch club and I am enjoying it for a lot of reasons.
One of the reasons I decided to start wearing a smart watch was for promoting physical activity. I I’ve mentioned before that while working from home has many perks (flexibility, no traffic, increases productivity), but one of the biggest downfalls is sitting at a desk for almost the entire day. Back when I was a teacher and in the classroom, I got plenty of steps in while leading 30 first graders all around the school. Now, it’s not as easy when your office is literally 20 feet away from your bedroom!
The Fossil Gen 5 Smartwatch (just released on Monday!) uses Google Fit to help you keep track of your fitness goals and remind you when it’s time to get up and move (aka you’ve been sitting at your desk too long). And after reading this article, I want anything to remind me to get my steps in.
I can now see why everyone is obsessed with their smartwatch. You can adjust the settings to get notifications for you calendar, social media alerts and soon you’ll be able to take calls from the watch (if you are an Android user you can already do that — phone calls on iOS are launching later this year in an update). I personally like to use it to track my steps and fitness goals, but I love how it lets me know what’s ahead on my Google Calendar.
Of course I opted for the all black version and now I have Austin trying to steal it from me. When he helped me set it up he asked if he could just log his info in it so he could use it (nice try). I guess he’s going to have to get his own. But really though, I love the sleek minimal design. It’s easy to wear while working out or if you are running errands and I don’t have to charge it everyday — which is a major bonus.
What are your first impressions of the Gen5? Do you own a smartwatch? xx Ashley

Till this day I was in dual state of mind to buy or not to buy a smartwatch. Looking at your watch, I’m now dead sure to buy one specially the Gen 5, and in all black. 🙂 May I know what size are you wearing?
