I did a little Q+A last Friday and couldn’t believe how many baby-related questions came through. There were quite a few repeats, so I wanted a place to document the most popular questions in hopes all of you who were curious, got a chance to see!
We aren’t experts, this is just what works for us. Honestly, I lean on my family, friends, pediatrician and you guys a lot. I craved resources like this in the beginning. Hope this helps!
HOW LONG DID YOU LET GEORGE SLEEP IN YOUR ROOM?
He slept in his bassinet in our room until he was 9 weeks. We started doing naps in his crib at 8 weeks to get him ready for his crib. I was honestly really sad moving him into his crib but it was the best decision for us. George is an active sleeper and moves a lot in his sleep. When he was in the bassinet, he would roll and hit the side and wake up. Sleeping in his crib gave him more room and he sleeps more sound.
WHAT DIAPERS ARE YOU USING?
We’ve tried so, so many. Our favorites are Earth’s Best or Parent’s Choice Premium Diapers from Walmart (did you know Parent’s Choice has been a premier baby brand at Walmart for the last 20 years?). We registered for several different brands because we weren’t sure what we wanted and it was nice because we got a little bit of everything. Everyone has their preference, and so far, these are our top choices for diapers.
WHAT BOTTLES DID YOU USE? OR DID YOU BREASTFEED ONLY?
I have an entire blog post dedicated to breastfeeding. Long story short, I had to pump and bottle feed for the first 2.5 months then we finally introduced formula around the 3-month mark. Since we started to supplement with formula, I am able to produce enough for me to nurse 1-2 times a day.
Our favorite bottles: Tommee Tippee, Parent’s Choice Glass Bottles (so easy to clean), and Comotomo. We used Dr. Brown’s at the beginning and loved, but then noticed they started leaking. So we eventually switched.
DO YOU HAVE A SCHEDULE FOR GEORGE?
Yes! We started implementing a schedule the week before Austin and I went back to work. I have our schedule from 3-4 months here, but since he’s been 5 months he doesn’t require a late-night feed. It wasn’t always easy and I feel like some days go so smooth and other days it feels like we are starting at the beginning again. But I hear that’s pretty normal. At least that’s what I tell myself, ha.
7:45a Breastfeed 20mins + 5oz Formula
11:00a 6oz Formula
1:00p Baby Food + 5oz Formula
4:00p 6oz Formula
8:00p Breastfeed 20 mins + 6oz Formula
This schedule works for us because if I have a work conflict or can’t breastfeed at that exact time, we give him a formula bottle and breastfeed the next time. I’m working on a post with a very detailed outline of his schedule, what we do during playtime, how we got him to sleep through the night and how we felt with the 4mo sleep regression.
ANYTHING YOU USE NOW THAT YOU WISHED YOU REGISTERED FOR?
Nothing big comes to mind, but it’s the little things I didn’t think of back then. Like pacifiers and hand wipes — we love Parent’s Choice Pacifier Wipes. There are always times when you aren’t near a sink and the pacifier drops to the ground…these have been great! We also keep these Babyganics Hand Sanitizing Wipes in the car for all of us to use. You also can’t go wrong with white onesies. I still think the Baby Brezza is the best gift for anyone introducing formula. I have more suggestions back in this blog post.
