We went to Austin a few weeks ago and had the best time exploring the city. Being in Dallas, we aren’t too far away from Austin…I don’t know why we don’t go more often. It’s a great place for a girl’s trip, weekend getaway with your partner or family. We should definitely go there more!
Below, I included the places we went and top TTD Fam recommendations. And yes, these are all IG worthy and perfect if you need to get a cute shot. Have you tried any of these? Be sure to bookmark this for your next ATX trip. xx Ashley
WHERE WE WENT
BRUNCH + COFFEE
*way more below in the TTD Fam Recs*
LA POLITIQUE — Downtown and very IG worthy. You can sit and eat in the actual restaurant or sit in the bar area (they will still serve you food here too). They also have a quick service coffee + pastry shop next door. It’s a fun spot and the food is great.
ALFRED’S AT THE LINE HOTEL — Not like the Alfred’s in LA, this is inside a hotel, but it’s still very branded and offers the same amazing coffee.
MERIT COFFEE — Fun little spot for a quick coffee.
LUNCH + DINNER
WU CHOW AUSTIN — Downtown and they take reservations through Open Table. Thanks @madspotter for this incredible rec — the dumplings were AMAZE.
TINY BOXWOODS —They take reservations through Resy and is walking distance to Tiny’s Milk + Cookies (the best cookies and sweets) and a few other cute local shops. We went for lunch and had the Salmon Salad (it was seriously so good). If the weather is nice, try to get a spot on the patio. *This spot had over 50 recs from TTD Fam and it DID NOT disappoint.*
MATTIES — GO HERE. They take reservations though Open Table — Honestly, it was all so amazing. Everything from peacocks roaming the property, decorations, food, vibe…it was all good. If you go, I would plan to get there at like 5:30p (before dark), walk around and see the peacocks, snap some pics, then go inside and grab a drink before your reservation. It’s all such an experience and you don’t want to rush it. The plates are rather larger, so you could easily split. We got the fried green tomatoes, biscuits, and fried chicken — YUM.
CAFE NO SE — Located inside South Congress Hotel. They had the best burger ever…I can’t wait to go back.
VERACRUZ ALL NATURAL TACO TRUCK — I think they are moving locations, but if you want REALLY good tacos. This is your place.
SHOPPING
SHOPS BY TINY’S MILK AND COOKIES — There are 3 or 4 houses turned shops within walking distance from Tiny’s. It was cute.
BY GEORGE — High-end boutique featuring designers like Celine, Byredo, Ganni (you can shop their store here too).
UNCOMMON OBJECT — A true gem if you like vintage or antique finds.
SOUTH CONGRESS — Pretty generic, but there’s a bunch of local shops that are all walking distance from each other. Start at South Congress Hotel (loved their hotel gift shop) and you can walk to Kendra Scott, Allen’s Boots and a bunch of other local boutiques and restaurants along the way.
WHERE TO STAY
OMNI BARTON CREEK — We stayed here this recent trip. It was really nice, the property was gorgeous and the service was incredible. The only downside was it was a good 20-minute drive to downtown and all the other places we went to. I don’t know if we would stay here again only because it was a little bit of a drive to get to everything. BUT if you want to go to the spa or golf, this is your place.
SOUTH CONGRESS HOTEL — Great location, yummy restaurants and coffee shop, and walking distance to a lot of Austin’s popular boutiques.
THE LINE HOTEL — I haven’t stayed here so I can’t speak to the service but the aesthetic was so good. They have Alfred’s, a cute pool area (small but nice vibe), and close to a lot of the fun places in Austin.
TTD FAM TOP PICKS
BRUNCH + COFFEE
LAUNDERETTE — Such a fun place for brunch, I wish we could have gone! I want to try the birthday cake ice cream sandwich.
HANKS — Cool vibe and offers a wide variety of American classics.
JOSEPHINE HOUSE— Everyone said the breakfast is amazing.
MANANA COFFEE — Located in the South Congress Hotel.
LUNCH + DINNER
PICNIK — Go for an early lunch/brunch.
ELIZABETH STREET CAFE — We’ve been here before and the noodles are so tasty. This was also a top reader suggestion!
UCHI SUSHI — We’ve been here before (they have one in Dallas too) and the sushi is incredible. I’m not as adventurous as Austin is, but here, I let him order and everything is delish.
JUNES ALL DAY — Definitely make a reservation on Open Table. Everyone said to get the Boston Truffle Salad, Onion Soup or the Monster Cookie.
RED ASH — Another top rec! We tried to make a res but couldn’t get in. Definitely going to try again next time.
