Like many of you, my closet consists mostly of wardrobe staples. And a white button-down is pretty much the key element of any well-curated closet.
I’ve recently learned that not all button-down shirts are the same. And in my effort to find the “perfect” shirt, I decided to test out 10 different styles, brands and sizes, in hopes to narrow it down to my top choice. I tried shirts from Equipment, Everlane, Banana Republic, Target, Madewell and Old Navy, just to name a few. I was surprised at which one I ended up loving the most!
How do you style your white button-down? xx Ashley
BEST OVERSIZED WHITE BUTTON-DOWN:
Notes: This Target Oversized Button-Down really impressed me. It’s not too thin and has a nice menswear-inspired fit. I tried several high-end brands, and this $20 shirt was a nice surprise.
Fit: I’m in a small. I would say it’s TTS but since it’s a menswear style top, just know it’s going to generally fit a little large.
BEST TRADITIONAL WHITE BUTTON-DOWN:
Notes: So many of you recommended this one from Madewell! It has a thicker material and was incredibly easy to steam (the wrinkles came out so easy on this one).
Fit: Despite the name, I felt this had a more traditional fit than oversized. So if you don’t want something too oversized, this would be a good option. I am wearing a small here (I bought the medium too, but I didn’t like how it fit).
BEST SILKY WHITE BUTTON-DOWN:
Notes: Everlane is one of my favorite brands for basics. The quality is top-notch and I love their mission. I found this silky one to be comparable to the Equipment Signature Blouse and it’s almost half the price. The fabric was a little thin, but still excellent quality.
Fit: I am wearing a 6 here, and feel like it has the perfect oversized look.
MY TOP PICK:
Out of everything I tried, my top choice is the Target White Button-Down. The fit was the best on me and I love the masculine detailing. Reminded me of an Anine Bing style I tried a few years ago!
TIPS TO ELIMINATE WRINKLES
Get your favorite wrinkle releaser (I’ve tried many different ones and I still go back to this one – it just seems to work the best for me).
I spray the shirt, steam with a handheld steamer, then hang or lay flat on my bed and smooth out. It takes 5 minutes and gets my shirts nice and wrinkle-free.
