I know there is a lot of product sharing out there in the influencer world, myself included. We’re always sharing what we love or what works for us, but something I don’t share too often is when a product doesn’t work for me. I usually only focus on the stuff that I love but I thought it might be helpful, especially for those of y’all who know you have similar skin to me or whatever, to start sharing the items that didn’t work out for me. This isn’t to bash the brand or ANYTHING like that, and instead, I’m just trying to share the good and the bad (for me).
Let me know if you like this idea or if you’d rather me stick to what I love and end up buying again and again. Also, if there are any specific products you’d like me to test out.
xx Ashley
KEEP: Elemis Cleansing Balm or Karisma Cleansing Oil for double cleansing. If you prefer a balm, nothing beats the Elemis IMO. And the Karisma Cleansing Oil is incredible if you prefer an oil to remove your makeup. Either way, use these black cleansing pads to remove makeup and you’re all set.
SKIP: As I’m always curious about clean beauty swaps, I tried Ilia Soft Focus Powder which was unfortunately too drying for me. I loved how it felt on my skin, but ultimately it’s better suited for someone with oily skin and wants a more matte finish. I still prefer the Charlotte Tilbury Genius Under Eye and Face Magic Setting Powder. It’s finely milled and doesn’t crease or look cakey.
KEEP: Headquarters Scalp Scrub for Balanced Roots has been a game changer for me. I have been a loyal customer of the Christoph Robin Scalp Scrub for years (Like I would buy in bulk at the Sephora sale) and this is so much better (and only 8 bucks). It’s easier to wash out and the scrubbers are smaller so they really work their way into the roots to remove all product buildup. I use about 2-3x a month and it helps extend my hair between shampoos.
SKIP: Benefit Brow Microfilling Eyebrow Pen. I had such high hopes for this as I love the look of microfilling and was hoping to get the look quickly with this product. I used a brow marker to help fill in my brows and this just didn’t do it for me. I even bought it in two colors because I thought maybe I didn’t try the shade right, but it still provided very little pigment and was too thick. The ABH Brow Pen is so much better and doesn’t dry out. The marker is fine so it creates tiny hair-like strokes. If you want feathery-brows, get this.
KEEP: When it comes to lashes, I adore the Lancome Lash Idole Mascara + Cils Booster XL Primer. This combo will forever be a favorite of mine. I’ve never used anything like it and it really gives my lashes length and volume.
