Once Charlie was born and we came home from the hospital, we were obviously happy to be home but also sad not to have Charlie with us (since he was still in the NICU). I was recovering from the C-section and everything that comes with delivery, and then on top of that, there were a lot of emotions with not having Charlie home, finally getting to see George again, dealing with some stuff George was going through, etc. It was a lot, not going to lie, and I know most new moms go through alllll similar emotions when first getting home.
I’ve gotten the question ‘what’s a good gift or something helpful to do for new moms?’ a lot and so I’m getting a full post together to cover that coming soon. In the meantime, I wanted to cover one specific idea that we were lucky enough to receive the day after we got home. It was the sweetest and most beautiful care package from our dear friend Ginger, and I just couldn’t get over how thoughtful – and useful – it was. It’s definitely something I’ll recreate for a friend or family member in the future.
Thank you again to Ginger for this sweet package, and I hope it’s a helpful idea for y’all!
xx Ashley
NEW MOM CARE PACKAGE
Charcuterie board makings: Austin and I both live for a cheese/charcuterie board so this was one of my favorite parts. Plus, I feel like new moms are grazing a lot of the time between feedings, naps, etc and it’s a nice thing to have out in the kitchen for the afternoon to nibble on. And let’s be honest, a new mom doesn’t have the time to put one of these together so having all the contents felt special and easy.
Nice bottle of wine: Depending on if you’re breastfeeding and all of that, a nice bottle of wine was such a thoughtful gift to have. We’re excited to open it here soon once we can have a moment to ourselves to cheers and celebrate.
Dinner: I always think dropping off homemade meals is thoughtful and helpful for new moms and this came with delicious stuffed shells and broccoli. Easy to clean up and a delicious meal that beat whatever we had in the freezer. And oddly enough, having fresh veggies or a salad is so helpful because you’re often grabbing whatever is quickest when you’re a new mom, and it’s not usually healthy.
Flowers and chocolates: On top of the meal and wine, this came with the most beautiful flower arrangement and chocolates. The way to a girl’s heart!
While all of this would have been more than enough on its own, to top it off, it came in a beautiful basket setting. It felt like a little Italian picnic and something about the beautiful delivery alongside the chaos of breast pumps, laundry, etc. truly made me feel joyful.
